Variants

There have been literally dozens of remake attempts since the game's closure on 21 May 2008, the most notable being VMKUnleashed (failed), OpenVMK (open for only about a week in September 2013), MyVMK (opened 27 September 2013 and running to this day) and NETCOT Center (opened 2019 and running to this day).  Virtual Family Kingdom is another similar game which opened 22 May 2008 and runs to this day.

I recently re-discovered a cool graphic someone put together in 2009 laying out in a time-based flowchart some of the early remake attempts!
